"Chardonnay 2006 – The Beechworth region is producing some superb chardonnays, and this one has the class without the big price tag.  This complex wine combines characters of almonds, flint, stonefruit and pear and graces them with elegance and charm.  5 stars."

"2005 Smiths Beechworth Chardonnay – it might surprise you to hear that Smiths is the region’s oldest chardonnay vines, planted in 1978.  In the past few years this estate has made great advances and is now one of the region’s leading producers.  This wine shows why (and why the winery’s manager, Will Flamsteed., says picking the estate’s chardonnay is like playing with gold); no wonder it tends to walk out the door.  Crisp, clean, bright and very seductive, with quince, pears, lemons, nuts – it tastes beautiful."

Gourmet Traveller Wine September 2006 review2005 Smiths Vineyard Chardonnay - due for release in October 2006

Very tight, fine, restrained chardonnay with understated complexity: butterscotch, smoky charry notes. It still needs time and will reward cellaring. Smiths is Beechworth's oldest winery.
